At Mike Heisler Custom Saddles every saddle is individually handmade with the highest quality materials available and attention is paid to every detail in the making of our custom saddles to ensure the comfort of the horse and rider.

The Beginning
Mike has been fascinated with saddles all his life, he was raised in North Dakota on a wheat and cattle farm and during infrequent trips to town, the first place he would go was the local saddle shop. While working on a ranch in Colorado, Mike decided to make a little extra money by doing saddle repairs. After awhile he decided to try his hand at building saddles.

"I have been involved with cattle & horses all my life. After many years of using saddles, and studying every saddle I could get close to, talking to saddle makers and reading books on saddle making. I decided to try my hand at saddle making, with that first saddle I was hooked."

It's a natural talent for Mike, while the invaluable experience from saddle-building friends helped, he is 90% self-taught.

Over the years, with a move to Hutchinson, Kansas where he continued to build saddles and build an excellent reputation, Mike has custom saddles in nearly every state and 6 different countries. In 2001, he moved to a place south of Haven, Kansas where he builds saddles full time with his wife Carol, who also does saddle repairs, restoration and builds chaps and chinks for the ranch or show ring.

Building On Our Reputation
Mike has built trophy saddles for several organizations, such as CSRA, Paint Horse Congress, WSRA, and The Prairie Circuit just to name a few. He has also built year end awards for saddle clubs and junior rodeos. In addition to saddles, Mike builds headstalls, breast collars, spur straps, belts or just about any other tack.

I have been at my bench full time for 23 years and have built over1000 saddles and still can not wait to finish the saddle I am working on so I can start the next one.
